This 1930’s Silver Lake residence was the home to a couple of professional musicians that were looking to incorporate their own sense of beauty and privacy in their hillside home. In a design collaboration between the NCA Studio/ Pretty Smart offices, the team worked with the couple to develop a plan that represented their lifestyle while also working through the complex local codes, challenging soils conditions, and unique challenges of building in the Los Angeles hillside area. The home was expanded through a lower floor addition that tucked into the hillside below the existing house and cantilevered decks and private patios out over the hillside. These decks enabled the couple to expand their living space with limited additional square footage while embracing the views of the Hollywood Hills and enjoying the Southern California sun and air. The final design captured the couple’s relaxed sense of design into the existing house as well as the new master suite, bedroom, and music studio.
